Spy online

Do you think terrorism exists only in real world? Before you answer this question you should know that U.S. intelligence community is developing software that will detect potential terrorist in online games it is one of the data mining programs. Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell (serves as the head of the Intelligence Community, also acts as the principal advisor to the President; the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council for intelligence matters related to the national security; and oversees and directs the implementation of the National Intelligence Program) sad that they are working on software that will detect treat for community in popular online games, example World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Lord of the Rings.
This project is called Reynard. Projects main objective is seek to identify emerging social, behavioural and cultural norms in online games. If all goes well project Reynard will expand and observe other online games. The ODNI (Office of Director of National Intelligence) report to Congress is unclassified but it was accompanied by classified annex. ODNI Report to Congress 15 February 2008.
But that’s not all there are other data mining programs that will protect U.S. online from terrorism.
Video Analysis and Content Extraction – software that can identify faces, events and objects in video.
Tangram – system that evaluates current treat and seeks hidden treat to stop possible terror attempt.
Knowledge Discovery and Dissemination – this tool reminiscent of the supposedly-defunct Total Information Awareness program. It seeks to access disparate databases to find patterns of known bad behaviour. The program plans to work with domestic law enforcement and Homeland Security.
However these data mining programs are controlling our personal data. That is scary the U.S. intelligence community intend to search the entire web for images, video, databases personal and public without owners consent or knowledge. This is serious treat for our personal privacy.
Another disadvantage of these projects is that they are not cheap and here goes our tax money.
Are terrorists really communicating trough online games or it is just a way the government want to control us?
